Mike Douglas (Barry Sullivan), owner of a nitroglycerin concern hires his old friend "Buzz" Mitchell (Chester Morris), a race-driver of midget-auto cars who has been banned from racing, to go to work hauling nitro. "Buzz" makes a play for Connie Baker (Jean Parker), Mike's secretary and girlfriend, and also for Doris Lynch (Barbara Lynn), fiancée of Connie's younger brother, Jimmy ('Rand Brooks'), and gets Jimmy to replace him on a dangerous nitro haul and Jimmy, of course, has an accident and gets killed. But "Buzz" finds a way to redeem himself. The hard way.

Commissioner Nikolas Heldt starts his career in the Bochum police criminal division in a long-running human trafficking case, using unconventional methods to catch mob baron Felix Bricheaux, for which stickler chief commissioner Detlev Grün wants him suspended. State prosecutor Hinrichs protects him but dies from a cardiac crisis, his successor Ellen Bannenberg grants the suspension during in internal investigation. Felix walks from court after key witness Natalia Sokolowa, whose skin Heldt saved, fails to testify. Heldt gets Bannenberg to help find out what hold Felix has on her, guessing rightly it's a child.

Peter Gifford is a likable, dedicated schoolteacher that teaches a senior life skills class. When student Janet Sommers brings up the topic of sex and dating, he asks students to write questions on the topic, and will cover them in the next class. The parents get wind of what Gifford is about to do, notify the principal, and he warns Peter not to read the questions in class. Gifford decides to go against this and is suspended. The whole student body protests, and the administration gets worried on what to do.
